Die Flugzeugwerft Dresden (FWD) überholte von März 1970 bis März 1991 viele MiG-21 verschiedener Varianten für die Luftwaffen Ägyptens, des Iraks und Syrien.
Die Flugzeuge gelangten in den meisten Fällen durch den Transport in An-12, C-130 Hercules oder IL-76 nach Dresden. Syrische MiG-21 teilweisse auch per Schiff!
Leider verlor die FWD Aufträge aus Syrien, da die DDR selber über keine Flugzeuge, wie die An-12, verfügte. Syrien gab ihre An-12 wieder ab und so gewann Bulgarien die Aufträge, da es über An-12 verfügte!
Für den Durchlauf bei der FWD erhielt jedes Flugzeug der arabischen Länder eine Vertragsnummer, welche dann auch bis zur Ablieferung auf dem Flieger angebracht war! Erst kurz vor dem Transport zurück in die Heimat, wurde die originale taktische Nummer angebracht!
Im Gegensatz zu den überholten MiG-21 der DDR, Polens, der Tscheoslowakei und Ungarns, waren alle arabischen MiG-21 größtenteils in Englsich beschriftet!
The Flugzeugwerft Dresden (FWD) overhauled many MiG-21s of different variants for the air forces of Egypt, Iraq and Syria from March 1970 to March 1991.
Most of the aircraft were carried to Dresden in An-12, C-130 Hercules or IL-76. Syrian MiG-21s partly also by ship!
Unfortunately, the FWD lost orders from Syria because the GDR itself did not have any aircraft like the An-12. Syria gave up their An-12 again and so Bulgaria won the contracts, as there were over An-12 decreed!
Each aircraft in the Arab countries received a contract number for the FWD to pass through, which was then attached to the aircraft until it was delivered! Just before the transport back to the Home, the original tactical number was affixed!
In contrast to the overhauled MiG-21s of the GDR, Poland, Czechoslovakia and Hungary, all Arab MiG-21s were mostly labeled in English!

Diese MiG-21 wurde nach dem ersten Irak-Krieg laut UN-Beschluss verschrottet, wie weitere 9 andere MiG-21, welch der Irak an die FWD Flugzeugwerft Dresden liefern lise zur Überholung.
Die Cockpitsektion ist erhalten geblieben und gehört den Elbe Flugzeugwerken Dresden.
According to the UN resolution, this MiG-21 was scrapped after the first Iraq war, like 9 other MiG-21s that Iraq are delivering to the FWD Flugzeugwerft Dresden for overhaul.
The cockpit section retained and belongs the Elbe Flugzeugwerke Dresden.

Für die Rolltests und Werkstattflüge erhielten die MiG´s ein DDR-Symbol ähnlich der NVA-Flugzeuge.
Je nach Kappazität in der Lackhalle waren die Flieger schon lackiert oder wurden ohne Lackierung getestet.
